How to Use An Armadillo/Raccoon Trap
Armadillos are considered a pest by most, as they tend to dig up gardens in the search for grubs and insects to eat at night, which is why it is useful to know how to use an armadillo trap if you ever have this problem.
Armadillos are a unique animal and using an armadillo trap will not harm them, but give you a chance to capture them and release them somewhere safe but away from your own garden.
Armadillo Trap Bait
The bait use in an Armadillo traps can vary, but I find that the most effective bait to use is earthworms. If you put the earthworms in a stocking and place them in the trap, the earthworms do not escape but the armadillo can still smell them and will be tempted into the trap.
Tempting bait for armadillos, if you do not like the idea of digging up the earthworms yourself, is fruit. Fresh fruit is the best option, as it is fragrant and the most appealing. It is also readily available in most households and I find that it is probably the easiest way while you are looking to know how to use an armadillo trap.
Find The Den When Using Your Armadillo Trap
If you know where the armadillos den is, it is the best to place the trap nearby. This is the most efficient way how to use an armadillo trap, as it will be immediately looking for food when out of the den and will be immediately attracted to the worms or fruit.
To further attract the armadillo into the trap it is best to set up travel lanes of fruit leading up to the trap. The armadillo will follow these lanes and enter the trap in search of more of the fresh fruit. If you do not know where the armadillos den is, these travel lanes will be even more useful if you place them where you know the armadillo often goes.
Most armadillo traps are re-usable and there are accessories such as a trap divider that will allow you to feed and water the animal until it is possible to find somewhere for it to go. This trap divider slides through the bars of the cage, separating the animal from the entrance so that you can open the door and put the food in the cage.

The trap is not ideal for holding the armadillo for long periods of time, so make sure you find somewhere as quickly as possible. Once the armadillo has been removed from the trap, most traps are collapsible for easy storage and can be re-used if needed.
Make sure you don’t drop the armadillo off somewhere where it is a nuisance to some other household, but somewhere it can survive away from civilization if possible. If you are unsure, ask a local vet. Knowing how to use an armadillo trap is easy, though patience is necessary as it may take a few days for the armadillo to be captured.
